How are Google and Bing different in product review results?

seomarketingSeptember 26, 2025·#Seo Marketing

Google prioritizes community and e-commerce, while Bing promotes journalism and displays more diverse results. Analysis of 10,000 keywords shows that Vietnamese SEOers need a parallel strategy, not just depending on Google.

How are Google and Bing different in product review results?

In the SEO world, many people often assume that Google and Bing – the two most popular search engines – give nearly the same results. But a large-scale study based on 10,000 “best [product]” keywords (such as best budget headphones, best gaming monitor) has proven otherwise.

The difference in how these two platforms display search results not only affects end users but also completely changes the way businesses, bloggers and SEOers build building a content strategy.

Tan Phat Digital - an SEO and in-depth data marketing agency - believes that understanding the difference between Google and Bing is the "key" to optimizing long-term strategy, especially in the field of product review and e-commerce.

Part 1: Reddit - "king" of Google but "invisible" on Bing

Reddit dominates Google

When analyzing Looking at 10,000 keywords, the research team found that Reddit occupies the number 1 position in the majority of results on Google. The reason is easy to understand: Google evaluates Reddit as a place with real experiences, real discussions, real feedback.

This also explains why recently Google has continuously prioritized forums, Q&A, UGC (user-generated content) - content that reflects user experience instead of polished PR articles.

Reddit "evaporated" on Bing

In complete contrast, on Bing, Reddit dropped in rankings. unbelievable: position 158.
Cause: Reddit once blocked Microsoft's bot, making it impossible for Bing to fully crawl and index the data.

This is an extremely important lesson about SEO techniques. Good content is not enough, if the bot cannot crawl it, the website will almost "disappear".

Vietnam case: Voz, Tinhte may disappear

If placed in the Vietnamese market, imagine: forums like Tinhte or Voz, which are very strong on Google, can completely "disappear" from Bing if they accidentally block the bot or configure the wrong CDN.

Tan Phat Digital once handled a real case for a technology forum in Vietnam: despite having more than 50,000 articles reviewing electronic devices, this site was not indexed on Bing because it blocked crawling from AzureBot. After optimizing robots.txt and configuring the firewall, in just 3 months, the amount of traffic from Bing increased 5 times.

Part 2: Amazon and Home Depot - the e-commerce "giants" were deposed

On Google: Still holding the throne

  • Amazon: ranked #2

  • Home Depot: ranked #8

This is consistent with Google's long-standing strategy: prioritise e-commerce and large platforms.

On Bing: Sudden collapse

  • Amazon: fell to #58

  • Home Depot: "plunged" all the way #395

This is a shock to many marketers. It proves that Bing does not overvalue e-commerce, instead wants to share the spotlight with newspapers and specialized magazines.

Case Vietnam: Shopee, Lazada vs press

In Vietnam, when you search "buy cheap iPhone 15", Google will almost certainly put Shopee, Lazada, Tiki at the top. But on Bing, newspapers or personal review blogs have a chance to take the first position.

This opens up opportunities for small blogs or specialized newspapers - which are difficult to get into the top of Google - but have a "land" on Bing.

Part 3: New York Times and Forbes - Shine on Bing

Bing prioritizes reputable journalism credit

A surprising discovery: New York Times ranked #1, Forbes ranked #2 in the field of product reviews on Bing.

While Google only considers the press as an additional source, Bing places absolute trust in authenticity from major publishers.

Vietnam Case: VnExpress, Dan Tri, Vietnamnet

Suppose a Vietnamese user searches for “best laptop review 2025” on Bing. The results can include:

  • VnExpress with in-depth analysis

  • Dan Tri with a journalistic perspective

  • Personal technology blog

This is completely different from Google, where YouTube, Shopee or Lazada dominate.

Lesson: Trust vs Experience

  • Google focuses on community experience (Reddit, forum).

  • Bing focuses on press credibility (NYTimes, Forbes).

For Vietnamese brands, combining both directions (UGC + press) creates a sustainable strategy.

Part 4: Extremely low level of overlap

In the top 100 domains: only 48 domains appear on both Google and Bing.
In the top 500 domains: only 162 domains overlap.

This shows that Google and Bing are almost two different worlds.

For example:

  • A site ranked #5 on Google can completely disappear from Bing's top 100.

  • On the contrary, A site that is "ignored" on Google can occupy the top on Bing.

For SEOers, this is an opportunity to exploit Bing as a "new land", less competitive than Google.

Part 5: Bing is "open", Google is "tight"

  • Bing indexes more URLs: 120,000 vs Google only 82,000.

  • Shopee/Lazada.

  • On Bing: after only 6 months of onpage SEO + technical optimization, the site reached the top 10 for the keyword "best laptop under 15 million VND".

Traffic from Bing accounts for 30% of total affiliate revenue, an unexpected number.

Part 6: Lessons for Vietnamese SEOers Nam

  1. Don't just optimize Google: Bing has a smaller market share, but the amount of traffic is still large enough to exploit.

  2. Invest in journalism & PR: On Bing, reputable articles have a higher chance of reaching the top than commercial sites.

  3. Don't block bots: Check robots.txt, firewall, Cloudflare to make sure not "lock out" BingBot.

  4. Take advantage of in-depth blogs: If you can't compete with Shopee on Google, try Bing with long, detailed analytical content.

  5. Bilingualism is an advantage: Writing in both Vietnamese and English helps you be seen by both Google and Bing.

Research 10,000 words The key points out:

  • Google prioritizes community + e-commerce.

  • Bing prioritizes press + coverage.

This proves that SEO is no longer a single battlefield. Instead, we have many parallel "search universes" where strategies need to be flexibly adjusted.

For Vietnamese SEOers, opportunities are opening up: if Google is too cramped, Bing is the new door. And as Tan Phat Digital often emphasizes: "Don't just optimize for Google, optimize for the entire diverse search ecosystem so you don't miss out on potential customers."
